And if you only create a one square food stockpile (so the food doesn't rot), the other stuff will be moved out to other stockpiles as you create them.ĮTA: oh also remember to unforbid everything once you're done, or you can't use it, as well as turn off the gather "refuse" from outside setting if it's a super evil biome. I don't consider this much of an exploit compared to practically instantly teleporting every stone in the game onto one square. An anvil to the head isn't a great way to start an embark. Oh also make sure dwarves aren't in the square at the bottom. You are now underground and safe from thralling rains and other nasty stuff. Create at least a food stockpile on the dump square, unmark the dump zone, close off the top and dig out from underground.

You might have to set 'o' orders to gather 'refuse' from outside or they won't dump. Channel or dig down and create a dump zone with a single square dump at the bottom. I sometimes use a QSP for my initial embark in embarks where it's super dangerous and you have to get underground immediately or die. You don't really need minecarts but it's more efficient. Originally posted by Elite Autiste:for the unenlightened, quantum stockpiles are actually abuse of a mechanic moving stuff using 3 (minimum) tiles on the same z-level with a minecart. The excuse, "it would break peoples saves" is really silly. New content added to the game requires a proper reset anyway to have the new content generated.

Hell even RimWorld I would get periodic emails telling me a new version has been released, so I had the choice to download it or not if I wanted to use the updated content.
Dwarf fortress quantum stockpile update#
It's not like the download has an instant update mechanism. People can always opt not to update their games until they feel the desire to. Fixing issues sooner is far better, regardless who is playing. The game is still in progress and the further these guys add content the more difficult it will be fix issues, having to go over all material in the game old and new. Sadly don't think the Steam release is when this will happen next but that it'll wait until the map rewrite that's coming soon after. Personally wish he wouldn't hold back as much as he has, but eh, that's the approach he's chosen. Toady usually tries to postpone and gather up several such breaks for the same release so as to not break things for people playing long-running worlds too often. Am I delusional? Am I going about this all wrong? Am I making a big deal out of nothing? :( How is one supposed to know an adequate stockpile size if no one ever uses regular stockpiles? I mean, seriously - even "stockpile guides" on the forum focus on quantum stockpiles. But I and who knows how many other people don't use quantum stockpiles, so it's a bit frustrating. I have a suspicion that the reason nothing has been done to improve the stockpile situation is that seemingly everyone on various forums uses Quantum Stockpiles so there isn't really a need. My OCD just can't stand the travesty of disorganization and unsightly clutter. Or shelves! Shelves would be nice - as long as I don't have to those horrid large stockpiles. Heck, I would even be happy with working weapon and armor racks. I could, but I figure if there are so many new players and they get upset due to bugs, that Toady would work to resolve them in a timely fashion, right? Will bins ever be fixed? I understand that they've been on the backburner for a long time, but I can't see some of the more longstanding bugs sticking around if a massive influx of new players get into the game. Bins are definitely workable, but removing certain items (like ammo) can be a bit painful. Bins would be a good solution except for all of the problems they can cause. I absolutely hate massive stockpiles and refuse to use quantum stockpiles out of stubborness.
